Phillip Joel “Joe” Walker, age 85, husband of Catherine Sims Walker of Rutherfordton passed away Friday August 8, 2025 at his home. Joe was a native of Rutherford County and retired from AGI. Those preceding him in death include his parents Clarence and Estelle Proctor Walker; siblings Bobby Walker, P.D. Walker, Herbert Walker, Tom Walker and Janie Walker Higgins. In addition to his wife Catherine he leaves to cherish his memory a son Bryan Walker and granddaughter Faith Walker. Graveside services will be conducted 11 AM Monday August 11 at Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Peter Surran officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills or Southern Baptist Church. Crowe’s Mortuary is assisting the family.

Clarence Roland Hames Jr., known to many as “CR,” was born in February 1948 to the late Clarence Roland Hames (CR) Sr. and Palma Mae Morrow Hames. CR passed away on August 6th 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. He served in the United States Army as a cable systems installer and later worked for many years at BellSouth until he retired. CR was a talented and practical man with a wide range of skills. He enjoyed restoring vintage vehicles, from VW dune buggies to a 1940 Ford. He was also a dirt track race car driver, a recreational pilot and an experienced parachutist- with over 1,500 jumps. His interests included motorcycles, honeybees, vintage cars, camping, fishing and fly fishing, and shooting guns. He was dependable, hands-on, and always willing to help those around him. CR lived life to the fullest and sometimes seemed “bigger than life” to those who knew him the most. His last days were spent surrounded by family and friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had some amazing friends whom he spent countless hours with at his shop, home, traveling and at the airport. Survivors include his children: Jessica Hames Butler (Travis) of Mooresboro and Missy Johnson (Jay) of Rutherfordton; and his grandchildren: Caleb (Margaret) and Cara Johnson, Carolyne, Chloey, and Cathan Butler. Great grandchildren include Josie and Charley Johnson. The family would like to thank Hospice of Rutherford County for taking excellent care of CR at home. They would also like to express their extreme appreciation to his special caregivers Jeannie Holbert, Cheryl Boone, and Twiana Humphries. Hilda Webb Enloe January 7, 1932 – August 6, 2025 Hilda Webb Enloe, 93, of Rutherford County, North Carolina, passed away on August 6, 2025. Born on January 7, 1932, in Rutherford County, Hilda worked as a switchboard assignment clerk in the telecommunications industry. She was known for her strong work ethic, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family. Hilda was preceded in death by her first husband, Hoyt Enloe, and her second husband, Alton Thompson; her parents, Claude Webb and Ray Webb; her sister, Modine Hamrick; and her brothers Hoyt Webb, Yates Webb, Don Webb, and Foy Webb. She is survived by son, Harold Enloe (Rhonda) of Rutherfordton; grandchildren: Stephanie Insley (Howard), Caleb Enloe (Jesse), Hannah Hensley (Trent), and Josh Enloe (Heather); and great-grandchildren: Cole Insley, Caroline Insley, Liam Enloe, Piper Hensley, Phoebe Hensley, Aiden Riva, and Ayla Lawing. She is also lovingly remembered by her special niece and caregiver, Cheryl Honeycutt, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A service to celebrate Hilda’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Mt View Baptist Church 430 Hwy 221S, Rutherfordton NC 28139. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the church. Forest City, NC Geraldine Frances Hutchins Roberts passed away July 31, 2025, at her home in Forest City after an extended illness. Born July 4, 1940, she retired from White Oak Hospital after a decades long career in nursing. She was predeceased by her sister Joyce Hutchins Pittman. She is survived by her brother James Hutchins and wife Betty; two sons John Roberts and wife Jennifer, Charles Roberts and life partner Lynn Coggins; daughter Dorothy Alice Roberts; and three grandchildren. Roberts graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1977 where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She also graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 1982 where she earned a master’s degree in nursing. She also served as a past president for the North Carolina Nurses Association. An internment service will be held at a later date at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rutherfordton NC. In lieu of flowers, to honor her memory, the family requests gifts be made to the Geraldine Frances Hutchins Roberts Memorial Fund with the nursing department at Isothermal Community College Foundation, P.O.
