Nancy Joan Webster age 74 of Rutherfordton, NC passed away on April 25th 2024 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. Nancy was the daughter of the late Joseph E. Pavlas and Evelyn Williamson Pavlas. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Joseph Webster, and her sister Sally Pavlas. Services will be private.

Mary Sue Lange, age 72, passed away April 20, 2024 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer for 2 years. She was surrounded with her family and prayers as she went to be with Jesus. She is the daughter of Tommy Coyest “Cody” Simmons and Mary Ida Simmons Whitaker who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Hawthorn and a brother, Clark Simmons. She is survived by her husband Willis Norman Lange, Sr. of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; two sons, Willis Norman Lange, Jr (Cherise) of Chandler, Arizona and Travis Edwards Lange (Katie) of Minden, Louisiana; sisters Verda Lee Gladden of Pleasant Plains, Arkansas and Marsha Greene of DeRidder, Louisiana; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mary was passionate about serving her local church and was one of the main secretaries at the Word of Faith Fellowship. Any time anyone needed anything she was always a helping hand. Even during her illness, she never wanted to miss a service. She loved her family, her church family, and doing whatever God put in her heart to do. She was much loved by many, many people. A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 22 at 5:30 pm at the Word of Faith Fellowship Cemetery, 308 Godfrey Road, Forest City, NC 28043. The Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, April 23 at 6:30 pm at the Word of Faith Fellowship, 207 Old Flynn Road, Spindale NC 28160. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Word of Faith Fellowship Building Fund, 207 Old Flynn Road, Spindale, NC 28160.

Howard Wilbur Hodge Sr., age 96, of Gastonia passed away Tuesday April 16, 2024 while being cared for at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. Wilbur was a native of Rutherford County, a retired postal service employee, member of West Point Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II. Those preceding him in death include his wife Frennilee Gilliam Hodge, grandson Marshall G. Abrams, parents Willian Roy Hodge and Lavada Jones Hodge; siblings Archie Hodge, Molena Randall, Chloie Smawley, Viola Bland, Hub Hodge and Rebecca McDaniel. Those left to cherish his memory include his children Wilbur Hodge Jr. (Louann), Linda H. Henry (Gary), Nancy H. Browning, Dorothy H. Abrams (Lee), Nadine H. Kimsal (Doug); grandchildren Toby Henry; Jody Henry and children Brooke, Lauren and Maddie; Stephanie Matthews (Randy) and children Maggie (Drew) Turner, Wesley and Robert; Mischele Doggett and children Molly and Alex; Lacey (Chess) Roach and children Emily, Sophia, Lydia and Winnie; Nathan (Roxanne) Hodge and children Adalynn and Bryson; Chelsey (Sean Barber) Abrams and children Sadie and Waylon Ferguson and Vada J. Barber; Lindy Abrams, Holden (Whitney) Abrams and children Charlea, Lyza and Ryan; Paul (Krissy) Kimsal and children Everly, Stella and Lucy; Ben (Karen) Kimsal and children Kole, Duke and Jett; and Emma Kimsal; brother Wayne Hodge and sister Dianne Booth as well as many nieces and nephews. A celebration of the life of Wilbur Hodge will be 11 AM Monday April 22 at West Point Baptist Church with the Rev. Ad Hopper officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital Rocky Point Drive Tampa, Fl. 33607 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org Crowe’s Mortuary has been entrusted to serve the Hodge family.

Lindsay Womack, 83, of Burnsville, North Carolina died on April 16, 2024. He was born in 1941 in Forest City, North Carolina to parents Lindsay Womack Sr. and Eunice Womack. Lindsay graduated from Harris School before joining The Air Force as a radar technician from 1960-1964. He then went on to a career in storage technology for nearly 40 years. After retirement, he enjoyed his apple orchard, garden, hunting, fishing, and all things mountain living could offer. Lindsay was preceded in death by his parents Lindsay and Eunice Womack, and siblings Russell Womack and Frances Wold. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lillian, sons Michael Womack and Anthony Womack (Alison Kalinowski), sister Barbara McCoy, brother Carroll Womack, and granddaughter Olivia. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday April 22, 2024 at Crowe's Funeral Chapel in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. Lindsay will be laid to rest in the cemetery of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Forest City with a small ceremony for family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valor Hospice at the Asheville VA Health Care System, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.

William Howard Gibson July 19, 1947 – April 16, 2024 William Howard Gibson of Rutherfordton, NC died peacefully at home with his devoted wife Amy at his side on April 16, 2024. He was a much beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Howard was born to Betty and William “Buck” Gibson in Crenshaw County, Alabama July 19, 1947. Along with his younger brothers Albert, Robert and Walter he moved to Jupiter, Florida where he graduated from high school. Howard earned an engineering degree from the University of Florida and went on to have a successful career building and renovating VA medical centers. He retired to North Carolina in 2006 after building the state-of-the-art Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas and then serving as Chief Engineer there for 14 years. In all the cities where he lived and worked, he made lifelong friends. Howard enjoyed almost forty years of companionship with his partner and wife Amy. She was his great love, best friend and in more recent years his unwavering caregiver. Their love and devotion for each other left an impression on everyone who knew them. Howard is also survived by two daughters, SaraJane and Lyn, from his first marriage to Linda Layng, who died in 2012. SaraJane Weinstein and her husband Jack have three sons, Isaac (25), Reuben (21) and Levi (17). Lyn Curtis and her ex-husband Todd have two children, Ben (20) and Ava (18). Howard was a loving, patient and committed father and “Grandad” to all of them. His grandchildren loved and admired him deeply. He and Amy provided them with a home away from home where they could swim, drive tractors and have fun growing up together. They never stopped learning from him. Howard was a man of superb character. He had a great intellect and never tired of learning, but he also had a deep appreciation of the simple joys of life. He loved music, cooking a feast and spending time with friends and family. Fishing was his great passion and an activity he most enjoyed with his brothers. His love and compassion sustained and encouraged many people. He will be missed forever by his family and friends.
